Quinta do Relógio dates from the 19th century.
Was built by order of Tomás Maria Bessone, having been concluded in 1860, under the guidance of Architect Cinatti from Siena, who inculcated in it a strong Italian influence.
Later on it was the residence of His Royal Highness, King Fernando II.
In the gardens, stands out a “Torre do Relógio” (Clock Tower) after which the real estate is named.
At present, the property belongs to the heirs of D. António Luís Freitas de Lancastre Basto e Baharem, descendents of His Royal Highness, King João I and of Filipa de Lancastre, Queen of Portugal and daughter of John of Gaunt, 2nd Duke of Lancaster, son of Edward III, King of England. At the moment, the male line of the House of Lancastre belongs to D. António Perez Quesada de Lancastre, eldest son of D. António Luís Freitas de Lancastre Basto e Baharem.
The Quinta (Farm) has a marked Neoclassic language and environment, present
in the buildings ornaments sumptuosity, surrounded by a vast and consistent vegetation
where several species stand out, due to their size and old age, namely the Brazilian
Pine (Araucaria bidwilli), the Plane-tree (Platanus sp. Orientalis) and especially
the Dragon trees (Dracaena draco), all these trees are centenary as it can be seen
in the attached photos.
